Yum! Got the healthy soba salad. You wouldn't expect something named that to be so damn tasty.
I've been here twice. Once to eat in and one take out. Love the combos. You can get sushi with udon and a salad. There's a little of everything. Great menu. Very tasty food. Good service.
And the best thing is that my new office is right across the street! F-yeah!
This is a solid places for Japanese noodles and rice bowls. It's relatively affordable compared to the trendy Japanese restaurants in the Beverly Center area.
I liked their Nabeyaki udon and rice ball desserts with red bean and green tea ice cream. Soba salad was ok.
Oh how I love Mishima. It's nice not having to go all the way to the Westside to get Udon and Soba.
They have everything you'd expect from a Japanese noodle house - hot and cold noodles, teas, teriyaki, bento boxes, sushi, beers, sake etc.
I love the clean, modern decor. The servers are always polite and fast.
It's not too loud, it's not too quiet, it's just right. This is one of my favorite spots to go for an inexpensive dinner to catch up with friends.

Great, unique food. I love this place b/c they have really good Japanese food. I always get the spicy calamari appetizer and the udon soup. They have small, amazing desserts.
I've only eaten here twice and on both occasions I ordered the pork katsu bowl. The food here is pretty good and the food also comes out pretty fast. They have meals in which you can combo by adding a few bucks which allows you to add either add a bowl of udon noodles or soba noodles. For a regular meal, I would say the price on average is between $10-15 bucks which isn't too bad because their portions are quite large. The service is decent and they also give you iced barley tea. Also, if you get to this place around 11:45 for lunch you probably will never have to wait for a table.

Fast, friendly, good clean food. Makes my insides feel good.
The tofu salad rocks my sneakers off. Curried udon is a great cold chaser. Not a bad thing on the menu, but not a place for sushi.
I'm definitely not a regular at this joint, but when I do come here I have a good time. Ever since I had their cold soba, I've been craving more, more, more!
Their prices are not the cheapest you can find, but it's pretty reasonable. The last time I came, I ordered their spicy tuna rolls (6 pieces) for 5.95 and added COLD SOBA for an extra 3.50 (mm, soba).
Also, if you are for some reason craving sushi, you can stop by Sushi Mac next door for some really cheap sushi.
Reason for 4 stars instead of 5: I wish their portions of their soba were more generous. And also because they wouldn't serve me my food in one of their cute dog-shaped bowls (apparently only for kid's menu -shakes head-)! Those things are way too adorable!

I loooove their Sansai-Don! So delicious and so good for you! I cook udon and soba at home, so i usually opt for the items i can't seem to get right at home...it's all good though! Very clean, very fast.
My go-to place after a hard day of shopping at Beverly Center. I always get the same thing: cold soba noodles and tendon (shrimp tempura and veggies over rice) combo. For a place that's supposedly casual eating, the food is very good and not just thrown together hastily with no concern for the taste or presentation. The decor is very nice and I think it's a great place for ladies to lunch. I just wish the parking situation was better, it's a very small lot and sometimes I can't even find a spot. They gotta open one of these in the OC!!!

Ok, so my co-worker and I were craving ramen like our lives depended on it but alas, we could not find a "close" one within walking distance from our office. Another co-worker (http://lbj.yelp.com a.k.a. my personal Yelp when it comes to places to eat around town) knows the area well so suggested we try Mishima. Not much on ramen but still in the noodle soup family.
Very thankful that we walked because parking looked a bit tight in the small lot (but there may be better parking close by?)
The menu had different flavoured noodles that I had never heard of. Curry Udon, anyone? Though it looked interesting i opted for a vegetable udon soup (I wish I could remember the name for the life of me). I will have to try the curry udon another time.
Our noodles were delicious an hit the spot. Not the BEST I've had but very close. Reasonably priced, too. Service was quick and the staff was very nice and attentive to our needs. And I didn't notice this until someone pointed it out but they have these little devices they use to take our orders...that automatically shoot out orders over to the kitchen. The future is now, I say! Now if they can only do that with our payments...
Oh, and we learned something neat. My friend tried their iced tea and we were wondering why it tasted like coffee. Turns out they serve tea made from barley! Tasty! You should try it.
I used to go to Mishima's all the time when it used to be located in the Olympic Collection on Sawtelle. They have the BEST tofu salad ever, which is my absolute favorite item on their menu. I like the variety and different combos as well as the fact that I don't have to wait long for my food to arrive.

Food was good. The price was a bit much or maybe I am use to the prices in Little Tokyo.
It is one of those places where everyone sits right next to each other and try to ignore your neighbor's convo. It is loud so don't go there for deep conversation. The service was good and super friendly.
The parking is a bit of a pain.
Great lunch place. Service is fast. The staff greet you when you come in and when you leave.
Food is really good and prices are very reasonable. Favorites include the bento box and the different udon options. The bento box typically comes with the salmon and california roll, but I've substituted salmon for miso-glazed cod and cali roll for the spicy tuna roll instead. The udon is always flavorful and warms you up right away. I absolutely love soup of all kinds and their soups are definitely satisfying!
For less than $12-$15 per person, this is one of my favorite places for lunch in the greater Beverly Hills area. Also, there's great shopping nearby at Loehmann's and the Beverly Center!

Kickass Vegetarian Bento Box for just a little over $10.
Yummy grilled teriyaki soft tofu, salad, crispy (but not greasy!) tempura veggies, and they let you sub salad for the rice if you ask.
Oh and get this - you can choose the noodles you want the noodle soup that's INCLUDED with the Bento Box! (get the Inaniwa noodles! You won't regret!)
Bargan find right across the street from the Bev Center (YAY!!!!)
...and one of the few Japanese places where I can leave completely stuffed and not have to break the bank. (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Lastly... the tall Japanese waiter (forgot his name) is HOT.

Comforting yes. Authentic, maybe not - I have had better udon in Little Toyko and out in the San Gabriel area but being forced by fate (OH CRUEL FATE) to work on the westside (DAMN YOU BEVERLY HILLS) this is the closest thing I can get to a comforting bowl of chicken and udon noodles. But the combination of -
Nearby + Not All That Expensive + Satisfying Soup + Not Too Many WeHo Douches or Douchettes on Cell Phones = four stars for me.
Truthfully, I just get the same lunch over and over again, and skip any theatrics. Bowl of chicken udon ("tori toji") and a diet coke. I read a magazine by myself and look out the window and marvel at the poor suckers eating fake fish tacos at Baja Fresh across the way.
Parking on 3rd can be taxing at lunch. Get there early so you can get a space in the lot.

I started going here when it first opened years ago. I think its a nice simple environment with decent prices and food. There have expanded their menu quite a bit and have added more sushi combinations. I love the cold soba and always seem to order it with spicy tuna roll. My friend I go with orders the Nebayaki Udon. Definitely go for cheap eats. Parking is horrible little strip mall. Enjoy!
Mishima is a chain ran by Mishima Foods Corp., sort of the same concept as House Foods with their chain of restaurants, Curry House. I'm not trying to take anything away from the big corporate stamp, but as we all know, a chain, is a chain no matter which way we want or try to like it. And I mean this in the most compassionate way possible... something's gotta give when things are mass produced and that unfortunately results in having an affect in depth and quality.
I've been coming here for at least 10 years... pretty much as a default when I'm too lazy to drive down to Torrance for some authentic Soba/Udon-ya. And BTW, I read some reviews on this place and would like to clarify to some reviewers of this place that ramen is not supposed to be served at a soba/udon-ya. They are two different crafts altogether.
The broth here is so textbook defined powdered instant shit, it's not even funny. Absolutely no substance... I will place a wager that they don't even simmer the broth with fish stock. And the texture to the noodles are quite a joke. The Zaru (cold) Soba taste similar to what All Nippon Airways serves on board as their in-flight washoku meal. So typically corporate stamped, doused with chemicals, chemicals and more chemicals & preservatives.
I shouldn't be so harsh, but this is not what J-peeps would call a great soba/udon-ya. And I feel bad for saying this because Mishima's headquarters is based in my home neighborhood in Tokyo, which is Suginami-ku. But hey... I do dig Curry House, so who am I to judge.
Two notable items: Tofu Salad (I could devour this + the dressing by the fistful) and Morimoto's Soba Beer.
If you want a real authentic Soba/Udon-ya experience, definitely try Inaba, Sanuki no Sato or Otafuku in the South Bay.

I have been a regular here for 3yrs. I always order the soba salad for 7.50 and spicy tuna roll. It is the best so far that i have tried. Since reading yelp, I will give otafuku at try. The waiters at mishima are all nice and friendly. They greet us before and after our meals in a nice way. The hotpot that my date had did not taste so good. I told her to order hotpot from the taiwanese places in sgv. At mishima parking can be a little tight with the tiny space. Pricing is good.
I'm not really sure why I have never written a review for this place since I come here often enough. It is the place where I always get shishito peppers and their version with plenty of bonito flakes is very good.
I think my main problem though are the noodles. They don't have ramen. They have udon and a slimmer noodle that I don't want to try because I think it's just slim udon and I don't like udon. Gasp! What, how can a noodle lover not like udon? Hey, I don't like Chinese flat noodles (hor fun) either but that's neither here or there.
So, invariably, I get the mini-bento box or some such which is at a great price for $10.50 or so. It comes with three generous slices of seared tuna, teriyaki salmon, salad, soup and four piece of California roll. Hmm, I don't like Cali rolls but whatever. You can get spicy tuna roll instead for an additional charge but I usually just get a side order of it and split it with the table.
The fried chicken appetizer is great. And the udon is probably good too but there are too many other interesting things on the menu that I'll try before resorting to udon.

What goes well with after Christmas shopping? I'm glad you asked. That would be incredible Japanese cuisine a la Mishima. I have been going to Mishima for years because I am slightly addicted to their tofu salad. The small is more like a large and it costs $3.95. I mean....are you kidding me?? Not only does Mishima make a mean tofu salad but the rest of their menu is nothing to sneeze at. I took my family here today following a trip to the Beverly Center. Yes, you will notice that I am torturing myself with post-holiday shopping madness but when you see my New Years Eve outfit you will see that it has been well worth it. ;)
Mishima is a casual dining experience but the effort they put into the quality of taste and presentation is incredible. Their noodle dishes are amazing, and so are the bento boxes. The sushi is not the best but it's also not even close to being compared to Sushi Mac next door. Yuck! The parking lot can be a bit of a nightmare during the day and I imagine it gets a bit gnarly for the late dinner crowd but if you feel like treating yourself to an early dinner you shouldn't have a problem. Next time I go I am going to save room to try the coffee jello dessert. ;)

NAME: Mishima
TYPE OF CUISINE: Japanese
ADDRESS: 8474 West Third St., Suite 108, Los Angeles, CA 90048
PHONE: 323-782-0181
GENERAL LOCATION: In a small mall on the south side of 3rd Street, about half a block east of La Cieniga
HOURS: 11 AM to 10 PM daily
DELIVERY SERVICE: Call them
WEB SITE: http://www.mishima.com...
AMBIANCE: Unpretentious, clean and open. Japanese artwork and sculpture on the walls and the shelves (see http://static.px.yelp.... They've put in more artwork since this pic was taken). Jazz on the PA.
FOOD: My wife (who is Japanese) and I have been regulars at Mishima for going on15 years. She tells me that the food there is absolutely authentic, and reminds her of her mom's cooking (which I have eaten, and I concur!). No wonder the place is so crowded at mealtimes and has so many Asian customers. It's a "noodle shop," and does not pretend to be a Benihana or Gonpachi. It's a family place, and the kids (including those of high chair age) are welcome. They even go to the trouble of preparing hashi (chopsticks) for the kids that are held together with rubber bands for ease of handling -- a nice touch. But the main reason to go there is the good food! You can expect the food to be consistently delicious; an important point if you have favorite dishes. And the portions are generous. And I can tell you that the food is better than any place we've eaten in in Little Tokyo so far.
VEGGIE FACTOR: Absolutely!
(By the way, they are now selling their own line of sauces and spices right there at the restaurant.)
PRESENTATION: In Japan, presentation of the food is an art form, and it is carried out as such at Mishima. The food is beautifully arranged in dishes, glasses and trays that are themselves beautiful examples of Japanese pottery. You want to take a sec just to admire how it all looks before you dig in.
DRINKS: A full line of sake as well as bancha (green tea) and mugicha (a kind of slightly coffee-tasting cold tea made from roasted barley), plus Japanese beers and the usual soft drinks.
SERVICE: Always friendly and attentive. They give you a warm goodbye when you go, and if you're a regular, a friendly hello when you come in!
PRICE RANGE: About $15-25 per person for a full meal. They have (what I call anyway) "Mishima cards:" With one of these cards, every time you eat, you get points based on your meal price, and when you get enough points, you're entitled to a free meal! When you pay, you present the card, and it's all tallied up in their computer. Fun!
PAYMENT: Cash & CC
PARKING SITUATION: Parking can be a bit iffy: the lot (which is none too large considering the number of shops and stores in the mall) fills up around mealtime. There's a friendly parking lot guy up to 6 PM who will come out of his kiosk to guide you to the open slots. TIP: The parking spaces on the south side of the lot are wider and easier to get into than the ones on the north side! If the lot is full, I recommend you park in Beverly Center and walk over.

Great place for lunch or a light dinner, and good for when you don't feel like spending a lot of money. I always get hot udon. Delicious.
So much food for $16.00! And so delicious! My meal came with: salad, sushi, soup, grilled chicken, rice, and mixed tempura. And generous helpings of all the above. Everything tasted great, especially washed down with the Asahi on tap. Add in the easy parking, and you've got a pretty great dinner-for-dollars situation.

This is odd considering I have never been to this place but I must review their Tofu Salad -- how did I taste it you ask???
Magic!
...No, kidding....actually a friend made it at a dinner party recently (from the LATimes recipe article) and honestly it is one of the BEST tasting salads ever! (And that's a capital best so you know it has to be scrumptious)
Healthy and flavorful it has inspired me to not only recreate it at home but I am surely heading over to the restaurant itself to try it's other tasty offerings. Will review further after actual premises visitation.

Mishima serves Japanese cuisine fast food style. The price is reasonable. But the food was a disappointment.
We had Chicken Tatsuta-Age for appetizer. The chicken was really dry and hard. They also added too much spicy sauce.
I had Spicy Tuna Roll Combo. The roll was good. The udon that came with the combo has no taste and nothing in it besides noodle and soup. I mean, you can still get really full, but just don't expect too much of the taste.
My sister had Salmon Teri Bento. This Bento looked pretty good. It came with miso soup, tuna salad, California roll, salmon and rice. It looked great, but again, it only tasted so-so.
Overall, I think this restaurant is a good choice if you're on a budget, in a hurry, just want to get full and don't care too much about the food.

Oh Snap. Solid Japanese specialties (Donburi, Udon, Soba, Curry) with none of the pretentious California sushi culture attitude. I am way down.
I was very impressed by the menu. Pretty much any "normal" Japanese dish. Yeah it isn't gourmet, but those aren't gourmet prices. Exactly what I want. Solid.
I love the menu options. Get your don with soba/udon, or save a couple bucks and get a bigger portion with just (very mediocre) miso soup. Many other combo options abound. Nama beer is Kirin and there are plenty of other option. Solid.
Next time I go I am gonna try the curry. I make a mean curry so my standards are pretty high for jp curry. Be warned, my rating could change based on the curry's performance - but for now it is definitely a good 4 stars solid.

this place is fast, cheap, yummy.
i had the nabeyaki udon. too bad i was too stuffed already to enjoy it, because we got the tofu salad. the small tofu salad was pretty huge for an appetizer. it comes in a delicious sesame paste, miso-ish dressing, with a decent amount of veggies and slab of tofu on the bottom. yum.
my friend also ordered the onigiris. it was just rice infused with some pieces of fish flakes or ume flakes ? not sure. it didn't have actual salmon or plum in it, so ur just gonna get some flavored rice triangles.
my friend also got the cold soba salad. it tasted pretty much like the tofu salad we had.
cheap, fast, parking is hell. will come back for some cheap, fast, food.
The hot soba and donburi combination is all good. We always start off with either the Shitake shrooms or spicy tuna roll. Service is always top notch. A few of the wait staff have been there each time I've rolled on in for the last 10 years plus. That's dedication and tells a lot. They must get stock options. ;-0 So what if this is a chain owned by some huge company. This is a very good option for a quick eat.
mMmmm.. another strip mall restaurant to love. my favorite is the katsu curry dish. GO!
Superb portions, superb service. I've gone here too many times to go by individual items, but I'd highly recommend the tofu salad. I'm also a big fan of the barley tea that they offer for free.
Yes, it's a big corporate company, run in a strip mall - it's all the stereotypes that make foodies cringe. But you know what? The food here is pretty good, the prices are damn reasonable ($15 a person), it's close to the Beverly Center, and it's really fast.
Yum...fast & easy noodles, rice bowls, and bento boxes. You really can't go wrong at Mishima.

This is my favorite takeout place, seeing as how its down the street. Their Oyako Don is big and so good, their Udon is good, and I bet everything else is too! Its a pretty casual place, but in a good way :)
Plus Japanese food that you can take out without being poisoned is really hard to find...
How can you not like this place? I mean its super portions of rice and noodles, or both! Im addicted to their rice sprinklers, and their tempura flakes. The price is sooo reasonable, i really love it here, the only thing is parking sucks sometimes, and people dont park between the lines. Oh well, cant solve all of worlds problems,...just get full of udon!
Let's get this straight, haters.
Mishima ain't no Matsuhisu, but ....how you say... DA BOOMMB in Japanese?
Look - if you think you can go anywhere and get a fresh ass wasabi tuna roll and a hot bowl of udon/soba/inaniwa combo for less than $9.75 without dying, you are a fucking mental patient.
Mishima is giggity giggity goooood. Me 'n my babies go there all the time. Fresh, quick, healthy. Lunch or Dinner. Super nice people that work there ... suuuper nice.
And. Yeah. The salad dressing is freakin delicious. They sell it by the bottle now FYI.
If I'm at the Bev Center, I'll cross the street and eat at Mishima. It's really good, quality Japanese food for the reasonable price you pay.
I'm a huge, HUGE fan of freshwater eel, and theirs is pretty good. One of their best, I think, is the softshell crab salad. Mindblowing!
Their super narrow parking lot makes me slightly nervous. But then again, its LA and I'm thankful for any kind of free parking.
mishima was my college hangout for many years. the prices are fair and the best deals are their combo options. you get a massive heaping of food that you can eat there and/or take home. i always ordered their tempura with rice and udon. that was more than enough grub for many sittings...a survival tactic for poor starving students everywhere.
though i'm out of college now and have enough money in my pockets to eat at places based on taste AND NOT portion size, i still enjoy coming back here every once in a while when i find myself shopping at the beverly center. good nostalgia value, tasty eats, and also, to buy their bottle of "nori komi furikake." it's the seaweed and sesame seed concoction that they have available on their tables for your rice. SO GOOD!
they also have these really delicious condiments...the petite green bean and seaweed sides that you get with your meal. service is awesome and there's usually no wait for dinner or when you eat there during the weekends. parking sucks though....good luck with that.

Step away from the honking and bustle of the Beverly Center for a quick satisfying lunch with friends.
Pass the dessert case (the amaretto cheese cake looked incredible) as the host leads the way to your seat through the somewhat smallish dining area. The menu is pretty impressive for what's mostly Japanese comfort food.
Fighting off a cold, I went straight for warm and soupy items. I had the miso pork over rice combo, which comes with a side of noodles and some veggies. I opted for the hot udon. For a little under ten dollars, I had enough food to keep me satiated throughout the day, and the warm soup was exactly what I'd been needing after having the sniffles all day.
The miso pork had that delicious salty and caramelized flavor that compliments pork so well.
The items my lunchmates ordered looked equally delicious. I would absolutely go back for lunch, especially if I happen to be shopping at the Beverly Center. It's only a quick jaunt across the street.
Been this restaurant since it has only one in west LA.
Love their Udon combination and dessert is also yummy too.
Great place for visit even you are visiting by yourself only.
One of my favorite places to eat. Too bad I live on the other side of town, but whenever I stop at the Beverly Center I try to make a visit.
Their soft shell crab salad is to die for, and their oyaku don combo with hot soba is one of my favs. Their service is great too, wish the parking was a little easier though. Highly recommended!
